Thought I would post this link to the Kennel Club Safe and Sound Scheme,
as it gives some basic practical advice on the safe interaction between Children and Dogs.
While i'm sure most on this forum may already teach their kids how to behave with dogs...
and some kids may have already seen this information at their schools ect...
if you/they have not seen this information before then there is no harm in taking a look also,
as it is aimed to educate kids in a kid friendly way, with printable information, and also an online game for them to play.
You could also give the link to family and friends that may or may not have dogs...
to help give them and their kids an understanding of how to interact with dogs better.
What the KC States on their website:
"The purpose of the Kennel Club Safe and Sound Award Scheme is to promote the safe interaction between children and dogs. The Scheme can be accessed by clicking on the following link
www2.the-kennel-club.org.uk/web_portal/
The Safe and Sound Scheme focuses on the educational issues connected with staying safe. It can never be taken for granted that any dog will be 100% safe with everyone all of the time. Children have to be taught how to behave in the company of even the best trained dog."
It may not be the perfect advice for all circumstances...and it may not prevent some of the tragedies that do occur...
but it does have some useful basic advice for kids.
Anyway thought I would share….
Also below is a link posted on another AB forum... ( www.american-bulldog.co.uk/forums/index.php? )
the link is...
www.thebluedog.org/
A pro active informative site…. done in conjunction with a number of credible orgs,
and I like the fact it posts any research sources.
I can’t copy and paste but I agree with the stance it takes against breed specific legislation in the dispelling the myth section.
Cheers
Tracy
